Creed
Books
Does
your church have a “creed book”? Depending upon the denomination,
some churches call it their “Book of Discipline,” others their
“Confession of Faith,” and for most their “Manual” or Catechism.”
At Eau Gallie our creed book is the Bible. God’s Word was
the only “creed” of the first Christians (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
The
dictionary says that a creed is “an authoritative statement
of religious belief.” But the only authoritative religious
statement that has EVER existed is the revealed, written word
of God (John 12:48). Anything and everything else is human
supposition and hopelessly inadequate. It is the Scriptures,
NOT the creeds of men, that are “profitable for doctrine,
reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness; that the
man of god may be complete thoroughly furnished unto every
good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is the Bible that informs
and grants us “all things to pertain to life and godliness”
(2 Peter 1:3). Only God’s Word saves (James 1:21), provides
and insures the eternal inheritance (Acts 20:32). Plainly,
the creeds of men are NOT needed…except in denominationalism.
The
creeds of men are dangerous. Christians are warned “not to
exceed what is written” (1 Corinthians 4:6). God is intolerant
of additions to and subtractions from His Word (Deuteronomy
4:2; Revelation 22:18,19). The creeds of men do that.
ASK
YOUR PREACHER for your church’s “creed book.” If he hands
you something other than the Bible, then ask him to explain
what man’s creed does for that God’s Word does not. Also ask
him if it is necessary for you both to follow that creed to
be what you are religiously.
