Instrumental
Music in Worship
MOST preachers today teach that the church
can worship God with mechanical music (playing instruments).
Is this true of your preacher? If so, then ASK YOUR PREACHER
for the scripture that authorizes Christians to do so.
Now if there is such a scripture your preacher
will know right where it is and happy to show it to you (Shouldn’t
he? – 1 Peter 4:11). But be warned. If he cites an Old Testament
scripture remind him the question IS what authorizes CHRISTIANS,
not Israelites, to worship God with musical instruments. Tell
him that you need a New Testament (NT) scripture. If he says
King David used them, then you will know your preacher does
not have a NT scripture for his (and your) faith and practice
and is using King David for authority instead of the Lord
Jesus (see Colossians 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1-2). ASK YOUR PREACHER
if Christians can have eight wives and offer animal sacrifices
like King David (cf., 1 Chronicles 3:1-5; 2 Samuel 6:12-23).
Should your preacher say it doesn’t matter
to God if Christians worship with mechanical music, then tell
him that you need a scripture for that too (1 Peter 4:11).
Christians are commanded to SING their songs
of worship to the Lord, NOT play them: “SINGING and making
melody with your hearts to the Lord” (Ephesus 5:9). Dare we
add to the Lord’s instructions? (2 John 9).
