The
Kingdom: Now or Later?
Most people have been taught that Jesus’
kingdom has not yet been established on earth, but soon will
be at His second coming. What does the Bible say?
In Colossians 1:13, Paul told Christians
that God “has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and
brought us INTO THE KINGDOM of the Son he loves.” In Revelation
1:9, John told Christians in the churches of Asia that he
was their “brother and companion…IN THE KINGDOM of Jesus Christ.”
Obviously, Jesus’ kingdom was on earth in the first century
and men of the 21st century who deny it are wrong.
1 Corinthians 15:23-26 gives these details
of “Christ at His coming. Then comes the END, when He shall
have delivered UP the KINGDOM to God, even the Father;… For
He must REIGN, TILL He hath put all enemies under His feet.
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” Note: Jesus
will NOT “set up,” but “give up” His kingdom when He returns.
His return marks “THE END,” not the beginning. The passage
says Jesus reigns TILL He destroys death. But He destroys
death when He returns to raise the dead (vv. 20-23). Thus,
Jesus does NOT begin His kingdom reign when He returns. He
is reigning now in His kingdom and will continue till His
return. Jesus reigns over His kingdom, the church (Matthew
16:18,19; Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:18).
Is it taught where you worship that Jesus’
kingdom is not yet on earth? Is so, then ASK YOUR PREACHER
to explain this statement by the Lord: “Then Jesus said to
the people, ‘I tell you the TRUTH, some people standing here
WILL SEE the kingdom of God come with power BEFORE they die”
(Mark 9:1).
