Baptism
I
saw a bumper sticker that read, “God said it. I believe it.
That settles it.” I REALLY appreciate that sentiment. Just
imagine what America would be like if all her citizens held
such a conviction. Of course, it would put an END to religious
denominationalism in this country.
All
disagreements and divisions between churches would be SETTLED
if everybody would just believe what God said. Take for example
the controversy over water baptism. To my knowledge, no church
denies that baptism is a command of God to be obeyed. The
disagreement is over the reason or PURPOSE of God’s command
of baptism. We believe and teach that baptism IS necessary
for salvation. Others sincerely disagree. Can this disagreement
be SETTLED? Yes! If people are of the mind: “God said it.
I believe it. That settles it.” And what did God say?
God through His Son said, “He who has BELIEVED AND HAS BEEN
BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED; but he who has disbelieved shall
be condemned” (Mark 16:16; see 1 Peter 3:21 too).
Is that taught where you worship? If not, ASK YOUR PREACHER
to explain why he doesn't believe what God said. But keep
in mind: “God said it…That settles it.”
